Brass City Ballet (BCB) will start its 29th season with an open house Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its studio at 1255 Middlebury Road (The Hamlet) in Middlebury. The public is invited to attend, take a free trial lesson and meet BCB’s faculty.

Information on a complete fall class schedule can be obtained online at www.brasscity-ballet.org under the tab, “Class Schedule” or by calling 203-598-0186. BCB’s fall roster of classes includes Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz/Hip Hop, Yoga, and Dance Discovery for preschoolers. New this year is the addition of Zumba taught by Emperatriz Ochoa. All the open house classes (exception for Zumba Gold) will be held in BCB’s new, state-of-the-art studio, which is 2,000 square feet and has sprung flooring, mirrors and ceiling speakers.

The free class schedule for Aug. 16 is: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. – Zumba (ages 12 and up); 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. – Dance Discovery (ages 3 to 5); 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Zumba Gold – low impact – good for beginners (at BCB’s headquarters in the second-floor studio); 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Ballet (ages 6 to 8); 11:15-11:45 a.m. Jazz/Hip Hop (ages 5 to 10); 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Ballet (ages 8 to 11); 12:30 to 2 p.m. Intermediate Ballet (ages 11 and up/BCB levels B2 and up). There is no need to preregister for the open house. Just stop by!

Brass City Ballet is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the art, technique and joy of dance to the com-munity. “While BCB is known for its pre-professional training, we also have an enthusiastic group of recreational dancers,” said Elizabeth Fisk Barisser, BCB’s artistic director. “Our recreational students typically dance once or twice a week. Why not have proper dance technique while having maximum fun?”

Students 8 and older who show a desire for concentrated dance training are invited into the Ballet Certificate Program, where instruction is based on the Vaganova Syllabus for Classical Ballet, a Russian method of ballet training that progresses from the beginner A through advanced E level. Students enrolled in C2 level and up in the certifi-cate program are eligible to audition for entry into the Brass City Ballet Company, a student-based training company that performs year-round. For information on the open house, fall registration or company performances call 203-598-0186 or visit www.brasscityballet.org.
