Superintendent issues Ebola virus advisory

Regional School District 15 Superintendent Regina Botsford today issued the following statement to parents and guardians of students in the district:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

There has been much information in the news recently regarding the Ebola Virus. We are currently working closely with the Pomperaug Health District, the Torrington Area Health District, and our school medical advisor to obtain the latest and most accurate information concerning this virus.

Since the health and safety of your children is our number one priority, and since we believe that reliable information can only be helpful, links to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and from the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health are provided below. Please take the time to review them.

Please also continue to follow basic healthy practices such as washing hands and staying home if you are sick or not feeling well. Region 15 will continue to follow the recommendations of our health districts and our medical advisor. We will continue to reinforce hygienic practices in school such as covering coughs and sneezes and washing hands, and we will continue to be diligent in our cleaning practices.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about any symptoms that a family member is experiencing or about the Ebola Virus, your best source of information is your physician.

Please rest assured that we are working closely with health officials to monitor the status of the Ebola Virus and we will continue to keep you advised of any additional information. Thank you for your cooperation and attention in this matter.

Sincerely,

Regina L. Botsford

Superintendent of Schools
