Connecticut geology lecture Tuesday

The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society, in cooperation with Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, will host a program entitled “The Geology of Connecticut” Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m at the Kellogg Environmental Center at 500 Hawthorne Ave.  in Derby.

Geologist Teresa Gagnon will present the program on geology with an emphasis on state parks including Kettletown, Dinosaur, Devil’s Hopyard, Sleeping Giant and West Rock Ridge. Though a small state, Connecticut has a wide assortment of rock types, many swirled together in complex patterns. More recently in geologic time, continental ice sheets flowed down from the north, modifying the landscape by scouring, scraping and redepositing rocks and sediments throughout the state. This presentation will showcase some great examples of bedrock and glacial geology in Connecticut state parks.

Light refreshments will be served after the program. A donation of $5 per adult is requested. Children ages 12 and under are free. For more information, directions or to register, please call the center at 203-734-2513 or contact Dennis Kocyla at 203- 734-9325 or dennisk32@yahoo.com.
