Michael A. Jacaruso obituary

Devoted husband and father

JacarusoMMr. Michael A. Jacaruso, 96, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at the Village at East Farms. He was the loving husband of Rose (Civitate) Jacaruso.

Mr. Jacaruso was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Waterbury, the son of the late Michael and Mary (Zicardo) Jacaruso. Michael attended local schools and worked as a toolmaker at Plume & Atwood and Lakewood Metals in Waterbury for many years. He retired, after 18 years, from Ball and Socket in Cheshire. Michael was a proud World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran who served in China and India.

Along with his wife Rose, Michael was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church. In his earlier years, Michael enjoyed making wine in his cellar and bowling. He had a strong love for animals, and he enjoyed his vegetable garden and watching old movies, especially movies starring his idol, John Wayne. Later in life, he grew to love golf and had the amazing experience of a “hole in one” at Western Hills Golf Course and East Mountain Golf Course.

Above all, his family was his life. For many years, he was not only Rose’s husband of 67 years, but also her primary caregiver. He must be honored for his love and devotion.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Mary Russell and her husband, Harry, of Middlebury and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, Rose, he is predeceased by his son, Michael J. Jacaruso, as well as his sisters, Antoinette Botta, Genevieve Marinaro and Carmella Codianni.

The Jacaruso family would like to thank the staff at the Village at East Farms for their wonderful care shown to Michael during his time there. Thanks also to VITAS Innovative Care for their compassion and care offered to Michael and the family.

He will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts forever.

The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. from Maiorano Funeral Home at 95 Willow St. in Waterbury to St. Patrick’s Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
