Owned Rek’s Restaurant
Robert “Bob” Rek Sr., 74, of Prospect passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Letty (Williams) Rek.
Mr. Rek was born in Waterbury, Dec. 19, 1940, the son of the late James and Helen (Rusczyk) Rek. He was a lifelong resident of Prospect and was the owner of Rek’s Restaurant on Diamond Street in Naugatuck for many years. He retired from EWR in Waterbury, where he worked for more than 20 years. He later worked for Mitchell Bailey in Bridgeport. Bob proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of the Pine Brook Assembly of God.
Besides his wife of Prospect, he leaves two sons, Robert “Bobby” Rek Jr. and his wife, Susan, and James Rek, all of Prospect; four daughters: Annette Rek of Prospect; Barbara Rek Calabretta and her husband, Pasquale, of Watertown; Jo-Anne Rek and her fiancé, Mike Pasquaretta, of Newington; and Gayle Calabretta Rek of Goshen, Mass.; three brothers, Eugene Rek and his wife, Joan; Stanley Rek and his wife, Beverly; and Edward Rek and his wife, Lori, all of Prospect; his five loving grandchildren: Kendra Wright; Gage, Lindsey, and Erich Rek; and Kai Calabretta Rek; his sisters-in-law: Sadie Calhoun and her husband, Jerry, (deceased), and June Melvin and her husband, Ben, all of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Pine Brook Assembly of God in Naugatuck. Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded at the church.
