Saw-whet Owl focus of Flanders Program

Thursday, April 9, at 7 p.m., naturalist and raptor researcher Larry Fischer will return to Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust to share an in-depth look at the Northern Saw-whet Owl, eastern North America’s smallest and most secretive owl.

Learn about the Saw-whet’s nature and habitat and see exclusive slides showing the detailed facial characteristics of the Saw-whet owl, with its round, white face with brown and cream streaks, dark beak and large yellow eyes. This slide lecture is presented in a fun and educational way for everyone from the novice to the experienced owl watcher.

For over 30 years Larry has banded raptors in compliance with federal and state licensing requirements. He is a well-known lecturer on birds of prey throughout the northeast and recently received an appreciation award from the Hawk Migration Association of North America.

The program will at the Flanders Studio at 5 Church Hill Road on the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Roads in Woodbury. The cost for the program is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
