Middlebury police officers were dispatched to the area of Hop Brook Dam at approximately 10 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, in response to a report that a white male was exposing himself to people in the area. When Officers Ron Pruchnicki and Kathy Blick arrived on the scene, they were met by several witnesses who pointed out the suspect.
The officers apprehended the suspect, identified as James Nelson Barchus, 49, of Naugatuck, Conn. Barchus was arrested, transported to the Middlebury Police Department, processed and released on his own recognizance. He was charged with Breach of Peace and Indecent Exposure.
His court date was set for June 19, 2015, in Waterbury District Court.
Middlebury Police Chief James Viadero said similar incidents have been reported in other jurisdictions.
