The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the recreation area at Hop Brook Lake in Middlebury, Conn., is open for public use, but trail cleanup could take many days. The recreation area was closed early Tuesday evening due to damage from severe thunderstorms that passed through the area Tuesday afternoon.
While the main recreation area is open, rangers will be working to clear roadsides and lawn areas. Visitors are asked to use extra caution and be alert while cleanup work is in progress. Further, visitors are strongly encouraged to refrain from using the 7.5 miles of trails. Staff will inspect the trails and begin removing tree hazards as soon as the main recreation area cleanup is complete.
The inspection and cleanup work could take many days. There is no determined date as to when all trails will be fully accessible.
