To the Editor:
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Middlebury residents will be faced with a choice between two very different slates of candidates. Our town is at a critical juncture, and will be faced with some tough decisions on the horizon. We will need a team that will work together and provide the necessary leadership in order to put the interests of Middlebury residents first.
Because the differences are clear, the decision for voters should be quite simple. Candidates for both parties were selected differently, and each slate is on opposite sides of the spectrum.
Middlebury voters should take confidence that each and every candidate on the Republican ticket was interviewed and vetted over a two-month period. The process, conducted by the Middlebury Republican Town Committee (MRTC) nominating committee, matched each position to the candidate, and the MRTC approved the entire slate unanimously. Our opponents, however, conducted a very contentious and fractured meeting one night where people in attendance were asked to run for a position, even if they didn’t have the background or experience to support the position they are running for.
Our candidates understand the pressures placed upon each taxpayer and have what it takes to get the job done. Each candidate understands that our infrastructure is in dire need of repair and attention. This will require wise and prudent decisions to ensure there is a plan to manage our costs by addressing our needs today, rather than “kicking the can down the road,” and costing taxpayers more in the long run.
We are fortunate to have assembled a very experienced, dedicated, knowledgeable, and unified team of candidates who truly love our town and want to see it continue to flourish for years to come.
I encourage you to vote for our ENTIRE Team on Nov. 3. Vote ROW B!
Thomas King, Chairman
Middlebury Republican Town Committee
