#Middlebury Republican Board of Finance candidates Rita Smith and Dawn Calabrese were the top vote-getters at the Nov. 3 election with 1,203 and 1,355 votes, respectively. The Democratic-endorsed candidates, David Cappelletti and Joseph Drauss, got 889 and 639 votes, respectively.
Cappelletti, a Republican and an incumbent member of the Board of Finance was not endorsed by the Middlebury Republican Town Committee, which chose to endorse Smith and Calabrese. At the urging of Democratic first selectman candidate Michael McCormack, the Middlebury Democratic Town Committee endorsed Cappelletti, and his name was on the Democratic ticket on the ballot even though he is a Republican.
