Brass City Ballet (BCB), a nonprofit dance school and semi-professional ballet company, will present its 19th annual production of “The Nutcracker” Saturday, Dec. 19, at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. on the Mainstage of Naugatuck Valley Community College at 750 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. Tickets for this holiday classic are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors, children 12 and under, and students with valid ID. Tickets may be purchased online at Tututix.com or by calling 1-855-222-2849. On the days of the performances, tickets will be available at the door.
Brass City Ballet opens its Nutcracker auditions up to the general community, and performers from Cheshire and Watertown to Waterbury and Southbury take part. “We feature our pre-professional students, returning alumnae, and seasoned professional actors,” said BCB Artistic Director Elizabeth Fisk Barisser, “but the ones who steal the show are the little Gumdrops and Pfeffernesses, who come jumping out from under Mother Ginger’s skirt.”
This year, the role of Clara will be performed by Isabella Kopecky of Waterbury on Dec. 19, and Nadia Stronkowsky of Middlebury on Dec. 20. Deanna Pietrorazio of Middlebury will dance the role of the Snow Queen. Kendra Sperry of Woodbury and Sarah Pellman of Middlebury share the roles of Dewdrop Fairy and Sugarplum Fairy, which Pellman will dance Dec. 19 and Sperry will dance Dec. 20.
At each performance, Brass City Ballet will collect new, unwrapped toys that will be donated to children at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. BCB dancers, dressed in costume, will deliver the toys to the children in person.
