Middlebury Police Cadet Sgt. Jack Cronin is asking area residents to help our furry friends by donating items for dogs and cats Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16 and 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the main lobby of the Middlebury Police Department at 200 Southford Road in Middlebury, Conn.

He is asking for donations of dry and wet dog and cat food, treats, kitty litter, and dog and cat toys. He also will accept monetary donations. All donations will be given to the Middlebury Dog Pound and The Connecticut Humane Society.

Cronin, the son of Middlebury Police Officer Al Cronin and his wife, Kelly, is an eighth-grader at Long River Middle School in Prospect. He is an honor roll student and is collecting the donations as his National Honor Society service project. He also wrestled for Pomperaug Youth Wrestling.

Kelly Cronin said via email that Jack wanted to do a drive for animals for the winter months because there are food drives for people, and the animals sometimes are forgotten. She said one of Jack’s favorite pastimes is helping and working with the Cronin’s close family friend Rusty Bona, a Middlebury animal control officer.
