Middlebury and Southbury residents recently received a letter from the Southbury-Middlebury Scholarship Foundation (SMSF) asking them to contribute funds to support scholarships the foundation awards each year to well-qualified, hard-working local students who need financial aid to attend college. The SMSF gave $20,700 in scholarships in June 2016, $13,200 to 13 graduating seniors and $7,500 to seven college students.
SMSF is a nonprofit that provides financial help for Middlebury and Southbury students. It is staffed by volunteers, and every dollar of each tax-deductible contribution goes directly to scholarships.
Checks made payable to SMSF Inc. can be mailed to SMSF Inc., P.O. Box 1259, Middlebury, CT 06762. Donations also can be made online at www.smsfct.org. Donors are encouraged to find out if their employers have a matching gifts program.
