Clyde O’Bar Sr. of Woodbury, Conn., passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Waterbury, Conn., to Frank and Georgia Corey O’Bar. He attended school in East Corinth, Maine.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Cheryl Stockwell O’Bar; a son, Clyde O’Bar Jr. and his wife, Caroline, of Middlebury; a daughter, Cynthia Halloran and her husband, Richard, of Prospect, Conn.; and a daughter, Donna Wilde and her husband, Timothy, of Naugatuck, Conn. He leaves his stepchildren, Michelle Cole and her husband, James, of Antrim, N.H.; Sherri Cole of Woodbury; and Jason Carroll and his wife, Michelle, of Bethlehem, Conn. He also leaves eight grandchildren: Carrie, Cameron, and Victoria O’Bar; Gregory and Megan Halloran; and Zachary, Maxwell and Ciera Wilde; and a great-grandson, Alexander Wilde, along with his seven stepgrandchildren, Molly, James, and Joey Cole; Ashley and Justin Cole; and, Alyssa and Savanna Carroll. Clyde also is survived by two brothers, Carroll and Carlson O’Bar, as well as many more family members on both his and Cheryl’s side. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Cecil, Calvin and Carey O’Bar.
He was a small engine mechanic at Sears and at Schmidt’s and Serafine’s, from which he retired in 2005. Clyde also owned and operated CNA Stove Shop and Small Engine Repair in Naugatuck for several years. He was a master at fixing anything that came his way. In his younger years, he had a love for snowmobiling and especially loved the grass drags. Later on, he had a passion for going to auctions with his father-in-law, Charles “Chick” Stockwell.
He also leaves behind his two loving dogs, Lily and Molly, whom he spoiled by giving them a ride in his truck every day, even if it was only around the block. They will surely miss him.
