To the editor:
At the Oxford Board of Selectmen meeting Oct. 5, First Selectman George Temple was asked by a resident to comment about the individual from CPV (Braith Kelly) who was indicted in New York.
The following is taken from the minutes of that meeting. “First Selectman Temple stated that the BOS had no real decision in the process and the only thing we did was put the agreement out which was defeated. First Selectman Temple supported the plant 15 years ago as the town attorney, but he never dealt with this individual who got arrested. The individual that first selectman Temple dealt with was straight forward and very professional, very honest.”
Continuing in the minutes the resident stated, “It was big news in the New York Times and on social media. First Selectman Temple went to the Siting Council meeting and the DEEP meetings and was impressed with the Siting Council and they did a good job. First Selectman Temple stated that not one law enforcement agency has talked to him about this. From the BOS, we are satisfied that nothing went on in this town.”
Mr. Temple’s assertion that he had “never dealt with this individual who got arrested” is mistaken. A photo shows George Temple meeting with Braith Kelly at a local restaurant within a half hour of a town hall meeting. That meeting was held last year and was canceled because of overcrowding. The photo of their meeting is clearly at odds with Mr. Temple’s assertion.
I personally have seen Mr. Temple talking to Braith Kelly. Kelly was Competitive Power Venture’s (CPV) vice president for external affairs. Kelly was CPV’s eyes and ears when it came to the Towantic Power Plant here in Oxford. Kelly has been fired by CPV for alleged illegal bribery activities in New York.
A federal investigation into Kelly’s activities here in Connecticut and Oxford is supposedly underway.
