Michael Harris, 29, a suspect in 19 armed robberies, has been arrested and charged with the armed robbery of the Middlebury Subway store Jan. 8. Harris has an extensive criminal record including theft of a firearm, risk of injury, assault, larceny and possession of narcotics.
Harris, who lists his address as No. 32 Lawton Road, Torrington; 51 Locke St., Ansonia; 185 Meadow St., Naugatuck; and 183 Wakelee St, Ansonia, was arrested by Naugatuck Police Saturday, Feb. 4, while parked in his car at the Texas Roadhouse on Reidville Drive in Waterbury shortly after police allege he was observed committing an armed robbery of a convenience store in Southington.
Harris’s arrest stemmed from a cooperative effort with several police departments. Harris is suspected of robbing convenience stores and Subway shops in Derby, Shelton, Naugatuck, Middlebury, Torrington, Winsted, Southington and Waterbury. Information developed by the Torrington Police Department identified Harris as the suspect in the series of armed robberies. Information regarding his description, his weapon, clothing and vehicle was quickly shared by the various police departments, and a surveillance was set up on Harris.
Harris was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace on Feb. 8, 2017 for the Middlebury robbery Jan. 8, 2017. Harris is being held on a $250,000 court-set bond. More arrests relating to the armed robberies in the other towns are expected.
