Middlebury Police Chief Fran Dabbo said on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, Officer Pat Deely responded to a Nantucket Way home on a larceny complaint from an elderly patient’s daughter. The victim’s daughter said her mother receives home health care due to illness. She said her mother discovered a bank envelope containing $200 was stolen out of a pouch in her walker. Upon further inspection she discovered her Tag Heuer wrist watch valued at $2,000 dollars also was missing.
The victim’s daughter told Officer Deely the only people who were in the house that day were from a home health agency. The victim’s daughter contacted the agency, which in turn told her to call the police. Officer Deely later contacted the agency and identified a CNA who was at the victim’s home as Carla Carreiro, 56, of Nettleton Avenue in Naugatuck.
Officer Deely spoke to Carreiro at her residence and told her she was a suspect in a larceny that occurred on Nantucket Way. Carreiro was advised of her Constitutional rights. She immediately cooperated and said she stole the items in question. She retrieved the watch and the bank envelope and gave them to Deely.
Carreiro agreed to drive to the Middelbury Police Department where she gave a sworn statement saying she stole the money and wrist watch. Based on the investigation and statement given by Carreiro, an arrest warrant was applied for charging Carreiro with third-degree larceny.
Carreiro was later notified of the warrant and voluntarily turned herself in. She was booked on a charge of third-degree larceny and released on a $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Court Wednesday, Aug. 23.
