Middlebury Police Chief Fran Dabbo said Middlebury Police on Aug. 3 received a complaint from a female victim that she had been sexually assaulted the night before. Officer Pat Deely responded.
The complainant said she knew the assailant by the first name of Romeo, and he was a white male in his thirties. She said she met him when she was with two friends at a local restaurant around 10:30 p.m. Later that night, the four left the restaurant, went to the alleged victim’s friend’s home and went swimming in their pool. The alleged victim said while she was swimming the male identified as Romeo grabbed her by her head and held her underwater. When he let her up he told her, “If you like breathing you better act normal.”
She said that was when he forced her to have sex with him. After the assault “Romeo” left. The woman was transported to Waterbury Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Through an investigation “Romeo” was determined to be Romeo Tasho, 44, of Kaynor Drive in Waterbury. On Aug. 30, based on an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Romeo Tasho turned himself in to Middlebury police. He was booked on a charge of first-degree sexual assault and held on a $50,000 bond, which he later made. He was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Court Sept. 5.
