The Army Corps of Engineers announced today, Oct. 30, 2017, that it has temporarily closed parts of the Hop Brook Lake Recreation area as a result of flooding due to heavy rains received Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017. Though the recreation area remains closed for the season, visitors are generally allowed to walk in. However, as a precautionary measure, access to areas inundated by flood waters will be prohibited. Facilities will remain closed until further notice so the Corps can empty stored flood waters and perform cleanup and maintenance checks to ensure visitor safety.
Areas will be reopened after inspections are completed by Corps personnel and made safe for public access, pending damages and flooding from the rain event.
Visitors using other portions of the recreation areas and trails are advised to use extra caution due to numerous excessive washed-out areas, possible downed trees and hanging limbs.
