To the Editor:
We are experiencing the browning of Oxford. Anyone who thinks that Oxford has a rural character may want to drive by the titan machines chewing up thousands of trees in our “clean” development area around the airport.
The noise of jet engines disturbs the peace of a quiet evening. The blasting of bedrock rattles windows up and down Route 67 from Haynes to Hawley Road. The runoff from the power plant last spring polluted Jacks Brook from Prokop Road to the Naugatuck River. Hundreds of vehicles pass over residential streets each morning and afternoon en route to the industrial zone, determining their own speed limits.
High-density housing is the least of our concerns. At least there is no threat to citizens, no evacuation plan. Our rural charm was left in the 20th century. This is what some people voted for.
