Loving mother and grandmother

Mrs. Cynthia Claire (Caffrey) Villano of Boca Raton, Fla. and Middlebury, Conn. passed away peacefully at her Middlebury home Jan. 20, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Cindy was born Aug. 7, 1938 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Lena (Copes) Caffrey Lockwood, John Caffrey and stepfather, James Lockwood. She was predeceased by her husband, attorney John A. Villano.

Cindy was a graduate of Crosby High School and Skidmore College. She was an English teacher at Milford Academy before retiring to dedicate herself to her family. She gave generously of her time, serving on the Board of Trustees of St. Margaret’s McTernan School and devoting her time to numerous local causes and organizations, including The Girls Club and the CWGA.

She was a member of The Milford Yacht Club, The Country Club of Waterbury, and The Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club. She was an avid skier, classical pianist, patron of the arts, and most notably an accomplished golfer, winning championships too numerous to list throughout her lifetime in Connecticut, Vermont and Florida. More recently, she enjoyed playing bridge competitively and following professional golf and politics daily.

She will best be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and a true and loyal friend. It was of paramount importance to Cindy that she treated others with kindness and acknowledged everyone in her life. Cindy truly was the consummate lady: elegant and cherished.

She is survived by three children: Wendy Villano Yatsenick of Middlebury, John Timothy Villano of Lakeville, and Dr. Cherie L. Villano of Brooklyn, N.Y.; their respective spouses; and four grandchildren. Also, two brothers, Richard Caffrey of Torrance, Calif. and John Caffrey of Austin, Texas; her stepsister, Bonnie Foss of California; and her stepbrother, James Lockwood of Arizona.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 309 S. Main St. in Waterbury, Conn. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
