Quilts that Care, a nonprofit that makes quilts for cancer patients, continues to grow. Learn how to help them make quilts in a Quilt Strip Class Saturday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 130 Scott Road in Waterbury. Volunteers will work together to make quilts to donate to cancer patients. Material and instructors will be provided. Sewing machines are available for use, or you can bring your own. Reserve a machine ahead of time by emailing qtccontact@gmail.com.

New volunteers are welcome. No sewing experience is needed. Also, they are always looking for donations of 100-percent cotton quilting fabric or battings.

In 2017, Quilts that Care volunteers made 700 quilts, surpassing the 430 made in 2016. They attribute this to the opening of their new headquarters
at 130 Scott Road in Waterbury at the beginning of 2017 and to their fantastic volunteers throughout Waterbury, as well as their Bristol, Leever, Litchfield and Milford chapters. Since its inception, the nonprofit has made over 2,200 quilts.

Monthly they donate 40 or more quilts to 12 Connecticut cancer facilities, with additional quilts going out to known patients. The more quilts they can make, the more comfort and warmth they can provide to people who really need it. Their more than 200 volunteers from many parts of Connecticut put their heart and soul into ironing, cutting, sewing, sandwiching and stitching to make these unique quilts with the hope they will bring joy to the recipient.

Can’t make Saturday, March 31? Join them any Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 130 Scott Road in Waterbury, a first or third Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Harold Leever Cancer Center in Waterbury,  a first or third Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bristol Public Library in Bristol, or a first or third Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Litchfield Community Center in Litchfield.
