Loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather

Mr. Raymond M. Petrucci, 92, of Middlebury passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Gemma (Gaeta) Pertucci.

Ray was born in Pianosinatico, Pistoia, Italy on Sept. 4, 1925, son of the late Leonello and Rina (Sisi) Petrucci. He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Marseille in France and moved to Waterbury in 1952. He and his family settled in Middlebury in 1966. He earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Haven.

He started his career at Timex Corporation and later worked for Cuno Inc. of Meriden for 35 years, retiring as director of engineering in 1990. While at Cuno Inc. he was granted several U.S. Patents in the field of water filtration. After his retirement from Cuno, he started Hydro Systems International and Fluid-o-Tech International, which his family still runs today. He stopped working at the age of 88.

He was a longtime communicant and usher at St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury and a member of the Middlebury Knights of Columbus Council 3992. He also served on several boards and commissions in Middlebury over the years.

Besides his wife, Gemma, of 66 years he leaves three children, Mary Jean Petrucci and Jeffrey Markland of Columbus, Ohio, Mark M. Petrucci and his wife, Janet, and David L. Petrucci and his wife, Denise, all of Middlebury; a sister, Ivana Petrucci and her husband, Isidoro Galanti, of Florence, Italy; six grandchildren, Melissa Kunkel and her husband, Erik, of Waterbury, Elizabeth Petrucci and Michael Zielinski of Middlebury, Julia Neuman of Berlin, Germany, Christine Petrucci and her fiancé, Eric Sokowlowski, of Southington, Michael Petrucci and his fiancé, Samantha Morgan, of Stafford Springs, and Michael Petrucci of Middlebury; and four great-grandchildren, Tayor Kunkel, Braden Kunkel, Hunter Petrucci-Pilla, and Brennan Kunkel.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 29, at 9 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury to St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury for a Liturgy of the Word Service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Middlebury Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
