Spring is in the air, and Flanders Nature Center is offering a spring break adventure week for area students off from school the week of April 16 through April 20. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade can enjoy a week filled with fun and discovery at Flanders. Each day will bring a different learning adventure but every day will be packed with fun and include age-appropriate hikes, games, art projects, crafts and stories while enjoying the great outdoors! Choose a single day or sign up for the whole week of outdoor adventures.
Exploration will be the Monday and Tuesday theme with hikes to the pond, marsh and brook to discover and “catch and release” the wonderful creatures they will find there while discovering amazing facts about them.
Wednesday and Thursday will focus on animals. On Wednesday, kids will meet the newest Flanders spring arrivals of chicks, lambs, kids and bunnies and then hike the trails to discover newborns in nature. On Thursday, kids can try their hand at being a farmer for the day at Flanders North Barn. They will help with “farm chores” like feeding the sheep, goats, horse and pigs and collecting eggs from the chickens and then take a fun hayride.
Friday will be all about being a nature detective! Search for clues, follow tracks and discover signs of wildlife in the forest, ponds and fields during a full day of nature investigation.
Activities will be based at the Flanders’ Trail House on Church Hill Road in Woodbury. Pre-registration is required. Flanders is offering three sessions for each of these special fun days. Choose the morning session from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the afternoon session from 1 to 5 p.m. or a full-day session from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pre-registration is required. The cost per child each day for either the morning or afternoon session is $30 members and $40 for nonmembers. Full-day cost for each day is $60 for members and $80 for nonmembers. Before and after care is available at $8 per hour.
