President and principal of Holy Cross High School
Mrs. Margaret “Peggy” (Maloney) Leger, 61, of Middlebury passed away at her home on Friday, May 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Paul Leger for 36 years.
Peggy was born in Dorchester, Mass., on Jan. 19, 1957, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Brady) Maloney. She was a graduate of Mercy High School in Middletown, Conn., and received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College and her master’s degree in education administration from Fairfield University.
Peggy was the president and principal of Holy Cross High School. During her 38- year tenure at Holy Cross, she was also a physical education teacher, coach, and held other administrative positions. She was a colleague, mentor, coach, supporter and friend to the Holy Cross faculty, staff, students and alumni. She served on the board of directors of Holy Cross High School and the St. Vincent DePaul Mission in Waterbury. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Watertown Golf Club Women’s Association. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved her setback group. Family was most important to Peggy, and she adored spending time with her grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Paul, Peggy leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Erin Doughty and her husband, Michael, of LaGrange, N.Y.; her son, Kevin Leger of Southbury; her daughter, Meghan Leger of Middlebury; her grandchildren, Chase and Fallon Doughty; her brother, Peter Maloney, and sister, Mary Anne Maloney, both of Meriden; her sister-in-law, Sharon Maloney of Meriden; her brother-in-law, David Kleist of Wallingford; as well as many nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Maloney, and her sister, Judy Kleist.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 11, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross High School at 587 Oronoke Road in Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet DIRECTLY at the high school. Burial will follow at Lake Elise Cemetery in Middlebury.
Calling hours will Thursday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s memory to either Holy Cross High School, 587 Oronoke Road, Waterbury, CT 06708 or St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury, 114 Benedict St., Waterbury, CT 06706
