Middlebury Police Chief Fran Dabbo reports that on Tuesday, May 29, at approximately 2:54 p.m, a complainant called Middlebury Police to report an indecent exposure incident that was occurring on Charcoal Avenue at Fenn’s Pond. He said that, from where he was on Route 64, he could see a white man and white woman standing by a white van exposing themselves.

Due to the time of day, the complainant was concerned about students on buses leaving school and passing by the scene. The complainant was able to get the license plate number AB-77518 and relayed the information to police.

The male was later identified as John Wiczkowicz, 52, of New Milford and the female was identified as Anjelica Miraglia, 39, also of New Milford. Both Wiczkowicz and Miraglia have extensive criminal records.

When Wiczkowicz saw the complainant, he reportedly started to wave a cordless drill at the complainant in a threatening manner. The complainant distanced himself from the van and let the van pass his vehicle. As the van traveled past the complainant’s vehicle Wiczkowicz was waving a small sledge hammer at the complainant saying that he was going to kill him. The white van containing the suspects traveled in an easterly direction on Route 64.

Officer George Slaiby, who was on patrol, positioned himself near the center of town where he observed the white van bearing the reported license plate. Officer Slaiby stopped the van just prior to Yale Avenue.

While Officer Slaiby was beginning his investigation, the complainant arrived and positively identified Wiczkowicz and Miraglia as the individuals who were exposing themselves. Wiczkowicz and Miraglia were placed under arrest and charged with second degree breach of peace and second degree public indecency. Both were released on  $2,000 surety bonds with a June 6 court appearance date in Waterbury Court.
