Planning your weekend? Here are some area events you can enjoy the weekend of June 8 to 10.

Strawberry Festival

The Middlebury Congregational Church annual Strawberry Festival will be Friday, June 8, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the Middlebury Green at 1242 Whittemore Road in Middlebury. Strawberry shortcake made with luscious sweet strawberries on homemade biscuits with freshly whipped cream will be the main attraction. BBQ chicken, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs also will be available, a la carte or as platters with coleslaw and baked beans for those who would like to have a meal.
Children can enjoy games, face painting and touch the fire truck. Music will be provided by Wayne Gunther on keyboard and Billy Michael on guitar and vocals.

Field & Forest 5K

The Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust’s annual “Field & Forest” 5K trail run will be Friday, June 8, at 6 p.m. at the Flanders Van Vleck sanctuary in Woodbury, rain or shine. All ages and skill levels of runners, joggers and walkers are welcome to register to enjoy this 3.1-mile run/walk through the picturesque nature center. The event cannot accommodate strollers or pets on the course. After the race, participants will enjoy a post-race celebration with food trucks and live music.

Church tag sale

The St. John of the Cross Parish annual tag sale will be Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Parish House at 1321 Whittemore Road. All proceeds from the event will benefit the parish.

The parish is accepting donations of tag sale items except for computers, televisions, other electronic equipment, upholstered furniture, and books. Donations may be dropped off at the Parish House garage weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Genealogy Club meeting

The Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club will meet Saturday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prospect Public Library at 17 Center St. in Prospect. Following a brief business meeting, Jaime Aulet will present “The Basics of AncestryDNA,” exploring AncestryDNA’s many features and discussing various functionalities, including where to find the amount of DNA shared with a match, what the relationship labels mean, and how you can evaluate matches. Aulet has been researching her family since she was 14 years old. She is a past secretary of the Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club, and the current webmaster for the Genealogy Club of Newtown and the Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club.
