Boy Scout bottle drive

The Boy Scouts of America, Troop 5, will hold a redeemable bottle and can drive fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Square Plaza at 530 Middlebury Road in Middlebury. All Connecticut redeemable bottles (glass and plastic) and cans will be accepted. Please note that Gatorade and PowerAde plastic bottles are not redeemable.

If you need bottles or cans picked up beforehand, please text Brian Rosenhein at 203-707-0255. Thank you for your continued support of Troop 5. Proceeds from the drive go to camping equipment, scouting events and development of future leaders.

Genealogy meeting

The Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club will meet Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prospect Public Library at 17 Center St. in Prospect. Following a brief business meeting, Dick Kreitner will present “Researching Genealogy in Upstate New York.” Kreitner, who grew up in Western New York, has spent many years researching his upstate New York ancestors, who were very early settlers in Niagara, Erie, Chenango, and Dutchess counties. He will describe the many sources he has successfully used, with examples from his own research and an emphasis on resources available online. The public is invited and admission is free. Museum free day

The Mattatuck Museum will host a Community Free Day Sunday, Sept. 9, from 12 to 5 p.m. Dig into art and history while exploring the museum with free general admission. Changing exhibitions and selections from the permanent collection are on view throughout the galleries. Grandparents and grandchildren can take part in a colored sand creation art project. The museum is at 144 W. Main St. in Waterbury.

Free meal

Master’s Table Community Meals will host a free dinner Sunday, Sept. 9.  A second dinner, with Sister Funk Trio performing, will be hosted Sunday, Sept. 26.
