Keith McLiverty, Pomperaug Regional School District 15’s director of finance, operations, facilities and transportation, submitted his letter of resignation Wednesday, March 20, 2019. It was effective immediately.
In a telephone conversation Friday, Superintendent of Schools Joshua D. Smith would not comment on the resignation itself, saying it was a personnel matter. He did share that McLiverty joined the district in August 2005, and he said if information on the resignation became available, he would share it at that time.
McLiverty’s resignation comes while the district is working on its 2019-2020 budget, which will be voted on Wednesday, May 8. Smith said the superintendent-proposed budget had been completed and presented. He said the district has a very solid accounting office and will be able to continue through the budget process and move forward as needed.
Smith said a decision has not yet been made on whether to hire an interim finance director or immediately post the job and start interviewing candidates. In the meantime, he said he is working with the central office staff to manage the various tasks for which McLiverty was responsible.
A source told the Bee-Intelligencer that Region 15 Board of Education members were informed late last week of an ongoing investigation. At the Wednesday, March 20, Board of Education meeting, members went into executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
No one will say whether or not the resignation, investigation and executive session are connected or entirely separate events. Smith would not even acknowledge there was an investigation, let alone say what was being investigated or who was conducting the investigation.
