Beloved husband, father and grandfather

Mr. Steven P. Donofrio, 92, of Middlebury entered into the Gates of Heaven Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, with his family by his side at Waterbury Hospital. He was the loving husband of Carmella (Longo) Donofrio.

Steven was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, March 5, 1927, a son of the late Peter and Josephine (Vassallo) Donofrio. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and Post College. Steven worked as a loan officer for Commercial Credit in Waterbury for 37 years until his retirement. As a 56 year resident of Middlebury, he also served as chairman of the Middlebury Zoning Board of Appeals for many years. The family would like to thank the staff of Companions and Homemakers, Gina and Miguelina, for their compassion and care given to Steven over the past few years.

Besides his wife, Carmella, of almost 63 years, he leaves his children, Mark Steven Donofrio and his wife, Anlise, of Middlebury and Diane Morrison and her husband, Dean, of Coral Springs, Florida; grandchildren Alexander and Nicholas Morrison and Livia and Nathaniel Donofrio; and several nieces and nephews. Steven was predeceased by his siblings, Rocco, Louis and Frank Donofrio, Julia Stango, and Gloria Genovese.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. Burial will follow with full military honors at the State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown, Connecticut. A calling hour will be held Friday from 7:30 a.m. till the time of the service at the funeral home.
