Q: Who is Ben Affleck’s new girlfriend that he’s been traveling with? Is it serious? I’ve always hoped that he and Jennifer Garner would get back together. – O.A.
A: Affleck, who recently said in an interview that his divorce from Garner was his biggest regret, seems to have moved on with Cuban actress Ana de Armas. The two completed filming of their upcoming thriller “Deep Water” and went public with their relationship by vacationing in Cuba together.
De Armas appeared in the remake of the movie “Blade Runner” in 2017 and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the recent hit movie “Knives Out.” She’ll also star in the new James Bond film, “No Time to Die.”
As for Affleck and Garner’s future as a couple, they remain strong in their commitment as co-parents to their three children. Garner has been in a relationship with businessman John Miller since 2018. Depending on which gossip magazine you read, the two are getting serious, attending church together and might even get married soon, none of which seems to point to an Affleck-Garner reconciliation.
Q: PBS featured eight episodes of “Sanditon,” based on Jane Austen’s last novel. Will PBS continue with the series next year? – R.J.
A: “Sanditon,” starring Rose Williams and Theo James, originally aired on the ITV network for British audiences before being shown in the U.S. Unfortunately, it didn’t generate high enough ratings and was canceled by ITV. However, back in January, the official Instagram account for “Sanditon” made an optimistic statement despite its cancellation in the UK: “We are so proud of this show and excited for it to air on Masterpiece in January. As Jane Austen once wrote: ‘If adventures will not befall a young lady in her own village, she must seek them abroad!’”
PBS has aired all eight episodes, but nothing appears to have been decided about its future on that network. Perhaps it will find its way to a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu and gain a wider audience, but as of now it hasn’t been given the green light for a second season.
Q: Whatever happened to Julian McMahon? I actually remember when he was on a soap opera before he got famous on “Nip/Tuck.” – B.B.A.
A: The Australian got his big break on the American daytime soap “Another World” as Ian Rain. That was back in 1993, but he made a strong impression on loyal soap fans.
McMahon then went on to become a household name in “Nip/Tuck,” the hit FX series about plastic surgeons. That ended 10 years ago, but he’s still acting and currently stars in the Dick Wolf (“Law & Order”) produced series “FBI: Most Wanted,” which premiered on CBS in January. If it’s like most of Wolf’s other series, McMahon will likely be getting a pretty impressive paycheck in the years to come.
