At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Connecticut state officials said there were 3,557 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1. This is an increase of 429 cases over the 3,128 the day before at 1:30 p.m. The number of confirmed cases in Middlebury remained at 7.
The groups with the largest number of cases were ages 50 – 59 (752 cases) followed by ages 40 – 49 (620 cases) and ages 30 – 39 (560 cases).
On a graph showing how many people per 100,000 in each age group are testing positive, the three highest rates of positive tests were ages 80 and older (146 cases per 100,000), ages 50 – 59 (142 cases per 100,000), and ages 40 – 49 (141 cases per 100,000).
The report said a state public health lab tested 2,116 patients, and 405, or 19%, of those tested positive. Statewide, more than 16,600 tests have been reported.
On Wednesday, April 1, 766 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 85 had died.
Hospitalization numbers were: Fairfield County had 359 (+84) patients, New Haven County had 251* (+49) patients, and Hartford County had 126 (+16) patients. Other counties had 11 or fewer patients. *New Haven’s number for March 31 was incorrect due to a typo. The correct number was 202.
