At 4 p.m. Friday, Connecticut state officials said there were 4,914 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as of 12 p.m. Friday, April 3. This is an increase of 1,090 cases over the 3,824 the day before at 12 p.m. The number of confirmed cases in Middlebury increased to 10.
On Friday, 909 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 131 had died.
The groups with the largest number of cases were ages 50 – 59 (1,010 cases) followed by ages 40 – 49 (834 cases) and ages 60 – 69 (756 cases).
On a graph showing how many people per 100,000 in each age group are testing positive, the three highest rates of positive tests were ages 80 and older (208 cases per 100,000), ages 50 – 59 (191 cases per 100,000), and ages 40 – 49 (189 cases per 100,000).
The report said a state public health lab tested 2,403 patients, and 491, or 20%, of those tested positive. Statewide, more than 20,015 tests have been reported.
Hospitalization numbers were: Fairfield County had 409 (+28) patients, New Haven County had 293 (+19) patients, and Hartford County had 166 (+30) patients. Other counties had 14 or fewer patients.

218 cases were pending address validation.
Cases in Middlebury and abutting towns all increased. The new numbers are: Middlebury – 10, Naugatuck – 20, Oxford – 18, Southbury – 19, Woodbury – 9, Watertown – 14, Waterbury – 160.
