At 4 p.m. Sunday, Connecticut state officials said there were 5,675 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as of 12 p.m. Sunday, April 5. This is an increase of 399 cases over the 5,276 the day before at 12 p.m. The number of confirmed cases in Middlebury remained at 10.
On Sunday, 1,142 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 189 had died.
The groups with the largest number of cases were ages 50 – 59 (1,152 cases) followed by ages 40 – 49 (963 cases) and ages 60 – 69 (896 cases).
On a graph showing how many people per 100,000 in each age group are testing positive, the three highest rates of positive tests were ages 80 and older (282 cases per 100,000), ages 40 – 49 (219 cases per 100,000) and ages 50 – 59 (218 cases per 100,000).
The report said a state public health lab tested 2,672 patients, and 616, or 23%, of those tested positive. Statewide, more than 23,270 tests have been reported.
Hospitalization numbers were: Fairfield County had 531 (+56) patients, New Haven County had 372 (+48) patients, and Hartford County had 189 (+5) patients. Other counties had 19 or fewer patients.
