Waterbury Hospital will begin recording pollen data for the season on Monday, June 1. The start date is about two months into the pollen season, a delay made necessary as the hospital focused attention on the COVID-19 pandemic. Waterbury Hospital has been collecting daily pollen data for decades. The daily pollen count is performed by the Waterbury Hospital Hematology Laboratory and sponsored by the Center for Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The data is made available to the public daily during the workweek. The pollen count will run through September.
Waterbury Hospital has the only center in New England that is certified by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology’s National Allergy Bureau. Pollen and spore data are collected over a 24-hour period. Data presented as “Today’s Pollen Count” actually reflects some pollen collection from the day before. Waterbury Hospital’s Hematology Laboratory has been collecting daily pollen data for more than two decades.
