Beloved husband and father

Donald Leo Watterworth of Middlebury passed into the kingdom of Heaven on June 9, 2020, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Harold F. and Emma Herr Watterworth. He was born in Waterbury February 1, 1931, the oldest of eight children.

Mr. Watterworth was a graduate of Fairfield Prep and Fairfield University and served proudly in the U.S. Navy, where he did tours of duty in the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic. Donald was elected as the first president of the Fairfield University Alumni Club in Waterbury.

He worked as an accountant prior to his military service, at Shapiro and Rosenthal Accounting, and then joined North East Utilities as an internal auditor and served with distinction in various roles for 40 years.

Faith and family were his highest priorities. Donald was the parish accountant at Saint John of the Cross Church in Middlebury where he was so happy to serve.

Donald is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Patricia Duffy Watterworth, and their three daughters, Kyle B. Magner and her husband, Bill; Gayle M. Watterworth; and Darlene M. Salvatore and her husband, David; and six grandchildren, Lauryn Magner, Kathryn Magner, Cameron Leed, David Salvatore, Emma Salvatore and Christopher Salvatore. In addition, he leaves two younger sisters, Christine Watterworth and Corrine Watterworth and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Joseph Watterworth, Richard Watterworth, Carol Perugini, Winifred Saginario and Virginia Wagner.

His funeral Mass was held June 13 at Saint John of the Cross Church in Middlebury. Burial with military honors followed in Lake Elise Cemetery in Middlebury.
