Anna M. Como, 80, wife of Joseph Como, died unexpectedly on August 11, 2020.
Anna was born on June 19, 1940, in Pozzuoli, Italy a daughter of the late Renato and Gelsomina (Ianniello) Balzano. Anna lived in Middlebury for the past 30 years, having formerly lived in Naugatuck. For 31 years, Anna owned and operated Anna’s Coiffures on Church Street in Naugatuck. Anna loved her family and she loved cooking and baking cookies for them. She enjoyed going to the casino, gardening, taking care of animals and feeding the birds in her yard.
Besides her husband, Joe, Anna leaves her son, Joey Como and his significant other, Bonni McAvoy; her daughter, Lisa Como; her grandsons, Joey, Matt and Chris Como; her sisters, Albertina John and Victoria Traficanti and her husband, Gerard Traficanti, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Anna was predeceased by her sisters, Geppina Testa and Irma Costigliola; her brother-in-law, William John; her stepfather, Salvatore Balzano, and her nephews, Philip John, Tim Keeley and Steven Traficanti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 318 Church Street in Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck.
Calling hours are Monday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home at 82 Fairview Ave. in Naugatuck. Everyone attending calling hours and Mass will be required to wear a facial covering and to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
