The October issue of the Middlebury Bee-Intelligencer went to the printer September 30, 2020. In Upcoming Events on page 1, it listed the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department Annual Open House, which at press time was scheduled for Sunday, October 11.

On Friday, October 2, MVFD Fire Chief Brett Kales posted a notice on Facebook saying the annual open house will not take place due to COVID-19. The raffle, a major fundraiser still will take place. Prizes this year are a Predator 9,000 watt gas powered generator, a Samsung 65″ LED 4K UHD Smart TV, a $400 Costco gift card, a Go Pro Hero 7 Black, a Nexgrill 5 Burner Gas Grill with Side Burner, a $200 Maggie McFly’s gift card, a $150 Amazon gift card and a fire package with a CO/smoke detector, a fire extinguisher and a $50 Home Depot card.

Chief Kales’ Facebook announcement follows:

To all Middlebury Residents,

With some of the new restriction and requirements from the state for the COVID-19. We had to make a very hard decision to have or not have our annual open house and fire prevention that is scheduled for October 11th. The annual raffle will still be taking place and it will be held at 4pm on October 11th. We would like to thank you all for your support through this trying time. We will contact all the winners of the raffle by phone.

Sincerely
Chief Brett Kales
