John J. Spagnoletti, 90, of Middlebury, died on October 9, 2020, in the comfort of his home. He was the husband of Angeline (Mangini) Spagnoletti. They had been married for 66 years.

John was born in Waterbury September 27, 1930, a son of the late Anthony and Josephine (Rossi) Spagnoletti. He attended local schools and graduated from Leavenworth High School in June 1949. He attended Post College before being recruited for the Armed Services on October 1, 1951. After his return from Korea in July 1953 he attended Quinnipiac University, graduating in 1962.

John was employed by the Bristol Instrument Company in 1953. After 47 years he retired as Director of International Operations. He was active for many years as a member of the District Export Council in Connecticut. He participated in many International Seminars on International Trade.

He was a very active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and was chairman of the Social Action Ministry. He had been a member of the American Legion Corporal Post 1 in Waterbury for 62 years and was a former post commander.

Anyone who experienced John knew him as a kind man, a true gentleman, a good listener and a great conversationalist. He had a strong bond with his family and a love for his Catholic faith.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Peter Spagnoletti and James Spagnoletti; one sister, Mary Mascolo; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Companions for all their loving care.

The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 785 Highland Ave. in  Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Murphy Funeral Home at 115 Willow St. in Waterbury is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, 645 Congress Ave., Waterbury, CT 06708.
