Waterbury HEALTH announced it is bringing comprehensive care to COVID-19 patients with a new Post COVID-19 Clinic. This is the first clinic providing comprehensive care for patients affected by COVID-19, in greater Waterbury.

Most patients who’ve had COVID-19 do well and recover within a few weeks, but some, including patients who did not seek care in the hospital and who had mild versions of the disease, continue to experience symptoms after their initial recovery. These patients, sometimes described as “long haulers,” need additional care for symptoms that linger over time including:

  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Joint pain
  • Chest pain

Other long-term signs and symptoms may include:

  • Muscle pain or headache
  • Fast or pounding heartbeat
  • Loss of smell or taste
  • Memory, concentration or sleep problems
  • Rash or hair loss

The Post COVID-19 clinic will be in Waterbury Hospital’s Cardio-Pulmonary Department. As part of screening and care, patients will be able to get pulmonary function testing, cardiac, and neuro testing and other help, with their care coordinated in one place. For providers and patients this means a more comprehensive approach to care.

Patients may seek care in the clinic include both patients who received COVID-19 care in the hospital and patients who did not require hospitalization but have lingering respiratory symptoms for more than two months.

Patients can self-refer by calling the clinic directly at 203-573-7074.
