Report Highlights

  • Middlebury had one more confirmed case and no more probable cases for the four days from Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 8:30 p.m. to Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 8:30 p.m.
  • The cumulative number of cases (confirmed and probable) in Middlebury rose to 715 in the latest report from state health officials, an increase of one case.
  • Middlebury reported no new deaths from COVID-19; total deaths remain at 19.
  • In a May 20, 2021, report Middlebury’s rate of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 fell to zero for the first time since last year. The rate decrease was for the period May 2 to May 15, 2021. This compares to 10.1 cases per 100,000 for the period April 25 to May 8, 2021, (7 cases in week 1; 4 cases in week 2).

On Monday, May 24, 2021, Connecticut state officials said from Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 8:30 p.m. to Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 8:30 p.m., COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 346,711. This is an increase of 557 cases over four days. The state daily test positivity rate as of Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 8:30 p.m. was 0.9%, down from 0.93% Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday at 8:30 p.m., 127 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, a decrease of 14 patients since Wednesday, and deaths numbered 8,219, an increase of 11 deaths.

Cumulative cases in Middlebury and abutting towns were: Middlebury – 627 confirmed (+1) and 88 probable (no change), Naugatuck – 3,183 confirmed and 333 probable, Oxford – 850 confirmed and 89 probable, Southbury – 1,235 confirmed and 222 probable, Woodbury – 565 confirmed and 79 probable, Watertown – 2,190 confirmed and 303 probable, and Waterbury – 14,749 confirmed and 1,615 probable.
