Events the weekend of June 4 to 6 include a Boy Scout Bottle Drive, a Shred-It fundraiser, a Roxbury church tag sale, and the Woodbury Lions Club car show.
Bottle drive
Middlebury Boy Scout Troops 5 & 6 will hold a bottle and can drive fundraiser Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Square Plaza at 530 Middlebury Road in Middlebury Proceeds from the fundraiser go to camping equipment, scouting events and the development of our future leaders. Please note that Gatorade and Powerade plastic bottles are not redeemable.
Shred-it fundraiser
The Second Annual Minchella Law Community Shred benefiting the Griffin John Namin Memorial Foundation will be Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 984 Southford Road in Middlebury. Donations of $20 or more are requested. Shred-It will be onsite to accept your sensitive documents for disposal. Bring any and all documents you need destroyed. 100% of the donations will go to the Foundation.
Tag sale
On Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Roxbury Congregational Church will hold its annual Rummage/Bake Sale. Masks are required, social distancing requested, and the number of folks inside at one time will be monitored. Offerings include gently used clothing, household items of all kinds, some small furniture and whatever else appears. Baked goods will be available and coffee is free all day.
At 1:30 p.m., the $5 bag sale will begin – everything you can fit into a bag for $5. Sale proceeds support the church’s mission in the community, both near and far. Lions Car Show
The Woodbury Lions Club 42nd Annual Car Show and Summerfest will be Sunday, June 6, all day at Hollow Park in Woodbury. The event is expected to attract more than 300 of the best classic cars in the Northeast and over 1,000 spectators. This year’s special theme is a tribute to our veterans.
Besides 30 classes of cars for judging, this year’s expanded show will feature food trucks, including Sonny’s Grinders, Caseus Cheese Truck, Zsabo’s Seafood Truck, Burning Peel, Ben and Jerry’s Catering, and Reverie Brewing Company. There also will be live bands onsite including Union Rail, Vintage, Leslie Costa, and Midnight Anthem. Slot car racing, and amusements and activities for children of all ages will be available.
Cars can begin to enter for judging at 9 a.m., with the first 300 entries receiving a free dashboard plaque. General admission begins at 10 a.m. Admission price is $15 per car, $5 per walk-in, and children under 10, $1. Judging begins at noon, with trophies presented at 3 p.m. The food trucks will remain open until 6 p.m.
Proceeds support Lions Club scholarships and a number of charitable organizations. The town of Woodbury is requiring attendees who are not fully vaccinated to wear a mask and continue to follow social distancing guidelines.
