On Thursday, September 23, 2021, Connecticut state officials said from Sunday, September 19, 2021, at 8:30 p.m. to Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 8:30 p.m., the number of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 387,263. This is an increase of 1,475 cases over three days. The state daily test positivity rate as of Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 8:30 p.m. was 2.28%, up from 2.14% on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., 282 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, 27 fewer than on Sunday. Through Wednesday, September 22, deaths numbered 8,483, an increase of 36 deaths since September 15. Deaths are reported once a week.

Cumulative cases in Middlebury and abutting towns were: Middlebury – 688 (-1) confirmed and 112 (no change) probable, Naugatuck – 3,500 confirmed and 463 probable, Oxford – 973 confirmed and 104 probable, Southbury – 1,376 confirmed and 267 probable, Woodbury – 621 confirmed and 105 probable, Watertown – 2,414 confirmed and 388 probable, and Waterbury – 15,841 confirmed and 2,105 probable.
