Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & uncle
Walter John Kloss, 76, of Middlebury, entered into the gates of heaven on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Joann (Forino) Kloss.
Walter was born in Torrington, Connecticut, on December 20, 1945, a son of the late Walter and Mary (Lupucy) Kloss. As a boy, Walter spent his childhood growing up in Thomaston, was a graduate of Thomaston High School, and later went on to attend Western Connecticut State College and Post College to further his education.
For over 50 years, Walter was self-employed with his business, Kloss Appraisals, a business spanning over three generations, that began with Walter working with his father, and more recently with his son Jonathan. Walter was a certified general real estate appraiser, was past president of the Greater Waterbury Board of Realtors Inc., American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers Chapter President, and American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers Governing Councilor. He also was a member of the Middlebury Lions Club and a devoted parishioner of St. John of the Cross Church. Walter loved spending time with his family on Gregg Lake in Antrim, New Hampshire and was an avid fly fisherman.
Besides his beloved wife, Joann, of Middlebury, Walter leaves behind to cherish his memory his four children, Walter Kloss of Seymour, Michael Kloss and his wife Susan of Waterbury, Jonathan Kloss Sr. and his wife Joy of Middlebury, and Katie Blake and her husband Tom of Middlebury. He also leaves behind his brother, Richard S. Kloss and his Pat of Middlebury/Florida, a brother-in-law, Alfred Forino and his husband Eric Baptista of Middlebury, as well as his seven grandchildren, Ashley, Kelly, Michael, Jonathan Jr., and Josephine Kloss; Danielle Ash-Bristol; and Charlotte Blake.
The family would like to thank Drs. Richard Silverman, Anamika Katoch and Glen Oemcke for the care and compassion they showed to Walter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 10, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church, Roman Catholic Churches of Middlebury and Southbury.
