Loving wife, mother and grandmother
Mrs. Darlene A. (Willsea) Gunther, 61, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Waterbury Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the loving wife of Wayne R. Gunther.
Darlene was born in Yonkers, New York, on August 19, 1960, daughter of Violet (Bard) Thiel of Stratford and the late William Joseph Willsea. She worked as a CNA for River Glenn Health Care in Southbury for many years until her diagnosis in June 2019. Darlene’s favorite time of year was Christmas. She loved decorating the tree, the house and all that came with it. She enjoyed crocheting but most of all loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved and adored.
Besides her husband, Wayne, of 31 years, Darlene leaves to honor and cherish her memory her children, Jennifer A. Peralta and her husband, Javier, of Middlebury; Christopher Callan and his wife, Iris, of Waterbury; Cristin Williams of Middlebury; William Callan and Rachel Callan, both of Greensboro, North Carolina; a stepson, Gregory Gunther, and his wife, Kim, of Lyles, Tennessee; three siblings, Violet Pickel and Joann Grolich, both of Stratford, and Charles Thiel of Naugatuck; eight grandchildren, Kaleb Williams, Christopher Callan, Chloe Quizhpi, Amelia Callan, Melany Peralta, Matias Peralta, Evan Gunther, and Catherine Gunther; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Darlene will be held Saturday June 25, 2022, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury with a funeral service at 3:30 p.m. to close the wake. Burial will be private at a later date at the convenience of the family.
