Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather

Mr. Philip R. “Butch” Ercoli Jr., 80, of Middlebury entered into the gates of heaven on Friday October 21, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Bilanchone) Ercoli.

Phil was born in Waterbury on November 23, 1941, a son of the late Philip and Louise (DeSantis) Ercoli. He graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School where he learned the trade of tool and die making. His first job was with Cotton Hollow of Naugatuck; he completed his apprentice at Sandur Tool Company and finished his career at Eyelets for Industry where he retired after 38 years.

Phil was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Harwinton Rod and Gun and a former member of the Wolcott Land Owners. He served as assistant Scout Master for Troop 5 in Middlebury for 10 years. He was a member of the Naugatuck YMCA, the Middlebury Senior Center, and the Oxford Senior Center, where he was in the bell choir. He and Lois did many activities together, including traveling, playing Bingo at the American Legion in Wolcott, and they were both parishioners of St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury.

Besides his “wife, partner, mistress” Lois of 60 years, he leaves to honor and cherish his memory: his children, Louis Ercoli (Lisa) of Plymouth, Sharon McCullough (Edward) of Wallingford, Philip J. Ercoli (Susanne) of Watertown, Thomas Ercoli (Laura) of Prospect, and Donna Semeraro (Matthew) of Terryville; a brother, Robert Ercoli (Lori) of Waterbury; a sister, Donna Griffin of Waterbury; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be Wednesday, October 26, at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury to St. John of the Cross Church at 1263 West Street in Middlebury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
