At 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, Memorial Middle School in Middlebury is under lockdown after a single 9 mm round (bullet) was found in a hallway. At this time, all the children and staff are safe and no injuries have been reported. Local police and state police are on the scene and inside the school.
Police Chief Pat Deely said he called in the Connecticut State Police, who have arrived with a dog trained to sniff out firearms. Deely said the dog will search the lockers at the school. This is a breaking news story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
2:55 pm Update: Lieutenant Ron Hunt reported that investigation was complete, and students are being released from school. He said the Middlebury Police Department will issue a press release later today. As a matter of policy, Connecticut State Police release information through the State Police Information Officer, not through officers on the scene.
