Connecticut Water has canceled the boil water advisory it issued July 27 for Heritage Village Water System customers. The company sent the following message to customers:
This is a message from the Connecticut Water Company.
The precautionary boil advisory previously issued for customers in Terryville, Thomaston, Southbury, Middlebury and Oxford has been lifted. You may resume normal use of your water for all purposes including drinking.
Additional water quality tests have confirmed that your water meets all state and federal drinking water quality standards and that bacteria is NOT present.
We apologize for the inconvenience of the precautionary boil advisory. Your health and safety is our first priority and we are committed to being transparent with you.
Sometimes, factors in the collection, transportation, and testing of water samples can cause false positive results. That’s why we conduct hundreds of tests each day throughout our water systems from source to tap.
Because testing anomalies can happen, state regulations do not require water systems to notify customers until a second bacteria test confirms that bacteria was present. For the safety of our customers and in an abundance of caution, we choose to notify you at the first test. If additional samples show it wasn’t present, we have caused you an inconvenience but we have prioritized your health by sharing information as soon as we have it.
In this case, samples confirmed that the initial bacteria result was an anomaly and that your water did, and continues to, meet all safe drinking water standards.
