Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother 

Mr. Francis A. “Fran” Grandpre, 79 of Middlebury passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on Saturday, January 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Fran was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Celentano) Grandpre having just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on January 2.

Fran was born in Waterbury, August 27, 1944, a son of the late Alvares and Margaret (Wrogg) Grandpre. He attended Kaynor Technical High School in Waterbury. He was a lifelong resident of Middlebury as a mechanic for 10 years, and later worked for the Town of Middlebury WPCA for 30 years. He was an avid car enthusiast owning a 1959 Chevy Apache, both a 1974 and 1978 Corvette, as well as a 2009 Mustang GT, and enjoyed going to car shows. He enjoyed a nice scotch and a cigar with his son Marc and Marc’s father-in-law, Joe.

Besides his wife, Pat, Fran leaves to cherish and honor his memory his two sons, Marc Grandpre and his wife, Michele, of Prospect and Scott “Gooch” Grandpre and his wife, Donna, of Middlebury; two brothers, Paul Grandpre and his wife, Patricia, of Wolcott and Donald Grandpre and his wife, Nancy, of Watertown; his grandson, Marc Grandpre Jr. and step-grandchildren, Ashley Breive and Allycia Ijlzi; two step great-grandsons, Anthony and RJ; his beloved dog “Princess” as well as a nephew and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Grandpre, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War.

His funeral will be Friday, January 12, at 9 a.m. at Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury to St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lake Elise Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
