June 5
Arts Alliance Gala
The Arts Alliance of Woodbury (AAW) invites all creatives and lovers of the arts to celebrate with them at their sixth annual gala on Wednesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall at 5 Mountain Road in Woodbury. The public is invited to attend. Dress is “smart casual.” Tickets, free for AAW members, are $10 for nonmembers. Purchase them at www.artsallianceofwoodbury.org.
June 8
Glebe House fundraiser
Proceeds from a Community Shred Day Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Newtown Savings Bank at 238 Main St. S. (LaBonnes plaza) in Woodbury will benefit the Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden. Clean out your files and securely dispose of unwanted documents for a suggested donation of $10 per box ($5 for seniors).
Gravestone cleaning
In June, the Middlebury Historical Society will clean cemetery gravestones on Saturdays, June 8 and June 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are invited to join the effort. Coordinator Tom Cunningham gives instructions to newcomers, and all supplies are furnished by the historical society and the Middlebury Cemetery Association, Inc.
Lighthouses cruise
The Norwalk Seaport Association and the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society have teamed up to offer a five-hour exclusive cruise that includes an hour-and-a-half stop at both Sheffield Island Lighthouse and the recently opened Greens Ledge Lighthouse on Saturdays, June 8, and July 13. The boat will depart the Seaport’s new dock at 70 Water Street at 10 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. This tour is open to the public and offers the rare opportunity to visit two architecturally unique lighthouses that have guided ships with welcoming beacons through Norwalk Harbor for hundreds of years. Genealogy Club
The Naugatuck Valley Genealogy Club will meet at the Prospect Public Library at 17 Center St. in Prospect and on Zoom on Saturday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. Following a brief business meeting, Toni McKeen will present “Hart Island: The Island of Lost Souls.” Hart Island is a potter’s field where over 1 million bodies are buried.

Strawberry Festival
The Middlebury Congregational Church Strawberry Festival will be Sunday, June 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. This year’s event will include food, games, music, raffle, book sale and, of course, home-made strawberry shortcake. The church is on the Green at 1242 Whittemore Road.
